Fashion Friday: Allons-y!

I’ve touched on my (loose) sense of style and the general way I try to dressing my body (er, flatteringly?) in the past. Well, in light of the fact that I’m still trying to figure out where I lay in the whole weight loss blogger spectrum at present time (given that I am le tired of counting calories but still have goals to lose these last pounds… eventually), I’ve decided to throw another type of blogging into the mix. One that I am in no way qualified to participate in, but as always, it’s my blog and I can write what I want to. Enter: “fashion” blogging! (A term that, when being applied to me, should naturally be read whilst making air quotes with your fingers.)

At any rate, it’s Friday and I’m feeling simultaneously scared and excited at what this weekend has in store for me (bright side: I’ll actually have real activities to report to you guys come Monday!), so giving into my vanity seems like a nice way to end the work week. Plus, yesterday I wrote a lot of words, so I figured that this was a good opportunity to make us of those things that are supposedly worth a thousand words instead. You know. Pictures.

I’m sure many of you are rolling your eyes. I understand. I’m doing it anyway though, so, you know, that.

I do realize that I’ve dubbed this post “Fashion Friday” but given how much work it has already turned out to be, there’s a high likelihood that I’ll never be motivated to do another one, hahaha. But whether or not they’ll be reoccurring with any regularity, it’s certainly fun for now!

I figured I would start with what I wore to work yesterday. My office is operating under what has been officially referred to as “summer dress code”, so I’ve been slowly experimenting with what that means. Apparently, maxi dress + sandals does not yet warrant a complaint from my coworkers (er, that I know of…?). Works for me!

After work I got myself all prettied up (i.e. reapplied my makeup) and roped Taylor into taking a zillion photos of me. Then I edited the photos and tried very hard to whittle them down… though I still ended up with entirely too many. Oh well! Vanity: 1; Modesty: 0.

Maxi dress: Target
T-strap sandals: Guess (similar)
Hunger Games locket: Etsy (similar)
Bow ring: Kate Spade
Willis bag: Coach

Somewhat ironically, I still ended up typing out a lot of words in this post. Oh well. Have an amazing weekend!

  1. Cute! I like seeing what other bloggers are wearing. I’m actually wearing a dress from Target right now too.

  2. Cuuute 🙂 Have a great weekend!

  3. Gah, I wish I were tall enough to wear a maxi dress. If I do wear a dress that falls to my feet, I look like I’m all of three feet tall! Looks great on you though, and I love that ring, so cute!

    • I used to think that maxi dresses are just a universally unflattering length. I’m still not convinced that’s not true, but this one is so freaking comfortable I just decided to go for it! It’s my first maxi everrrrr

  4. Adorable! So colorful and vibrant, just like your personality. 🙂

  5. I always love your style and makeup – would love more of these posts! Plus that first shot of you in the maxi dress is awesome!

  6. Very cute! If I had a better sense of style, I might do this as well, but I default to pretty much the same outfits every day. Boring! But I just love the colors, and the pink purse was a great choice. I enjoy fashion posts, so keep it up.

  7. ..also, Allons Y! Always reminds me of my high school French textbook 🙂

  8. Okay. So my mind immediately went to Dr. Who.

I love these photogs. Did you have them professionally done? Or am I just unaware that you are this awesome?

Also, screw your audience (not really but you get the point): Write about what you want. We will still read because you are cool.

    • Good, because Doctor Who is where the reference comes from! Also, no, not professionally done in the traditional sense, although my brother and his fiancee Taylor are professional photographers, so I get the benefit of being able to use his studio in the basement if I need to. Taylor took the photos for me, then I edited them! 🙂

  9. You look sooo pretty 🙂 I totally want that maxi dress!

  10. You look great! That ring is super original-way cute!

  11. I love how the maxi dress looks on you! I always feel maxi dresses help elongate my body.

The colors are spot on with what’s trending right now too :)! You look amazing in these pictures

    I HOPE there’s more to come~ I love posts about clothes~~~

  12. Michellesays:

    Hi Gretchen,

I’ve been following your blog for a little over a year now. I’ve been amazed at everything you’ve achieved, and commiserated with you on your not-so-good days. Don’t get me wrong, I understand how it feels to be okay with the weight you are now. However, I must say I was disappointed to see that the menu that was previously “weigh-in’s” is now “fashion” Taking a break is all well and good, in fact could be good for your mental health, but do you really need to change the whole direction of your blog? Would the “fashion” menu have not been a wonderful addition, rather than a replacement? I’ve been so inspired by you over this time, and feel disappointed in the complete turn around recently.

    • Michellesays:

You do look fabulous, though. 🙂 As an addition, it would have been perfect!

      • Ohhh, I’m just now seeing what you’re saying with regard to the menu options/navigation bar. That was an accident: evidently when I added “Fashion” as a category, it automatically put it up top, and that menu is organized alphabetically, so Weight Loss got bumped to the next line and is thus kind of hidden! I didn’t realize it did that. I’ll see what I can do to fix it so that both are still very obvious, because like I said in my response above, I definitely meant it as an addition, not a replacement!! 🙂

    • Hi Michelle,

Perhaps my wording was a little off, since I never meant to indicate this would be replacing anything! I definitely also view it as an addition to the blog. I may be taking a break from weighing-in regularly right now as I figure out how I want to move forward, but I’m definitely not changing the main purpose or direction of this blog at all. It’s still going to be focused on my weight struggles, balancing those with my love of food, and generally reporting on my always-striving-to-be-healthier-life!

I’m sorry that you feel disappointed, but like I said, this is certainly not a full-scale reboot of the blog or anything like that, just more experimenting with my various interests. 🙂

  13. Gorgeous pictures, you look awesome!

  14. bow ring lust happening over here!
