Fun Friday: You and I

Holy moly, it’s Friday already? Well, sorry I haven’t posted anything over the last couple of days. Believe or not, I’ve actually been on quite a roll in writing the sequel to Terra (hooray!) — which is the good thing that’s been keeping me distracted from blogging. The NOT good thing that’s been keeping me distracted is the Federal sequestration that’s about to be confirmed. I guess TECHNICALLY it hasn’t been officially signed yet, but as far as I can tell, it’s pretty much a done deal. For those of you who don’t know, my dayjob is working for a government contractor so this sequester is going to affect me directly — I’m just not sure in exactly what capacity yet. It could be anything from reduced hours (3-day weekends, all right!) to layoffs (forever weekends, not as all right!).

But! You know me, I’m never one to doldrum dwell. So I recorded a little happy ditty by the goddess of indie music herself, Ingrid Michaelson. Video’s below if you’d like to watch. Otherwise, I will be reporting back in on Monday.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Is it sad that I kind of wish I worked for the gov’t so I could get 3 day weekends? Minus the whole lack of pay part of course. Happy Friday!!

  2. What a cute song!

  3. “Forever weekends” is a genius phrase.

P.S. I’ve read, like, 3294803 articles on what the sequestration is going to do to military, and I still don’t completely understand. Wrong time to give up my job w/steady health plan for army wifedom. However, if you have any extended, non-forever-ish weekends as a result, I volunteer to fill them with Terra talk and cheese.

  4. Melaniesays:

I really needed that song right now. Thank you.

  5. Elizabethsays:

oh no! I’m a govt contractor, too, and so far, I’m not affected b the sequester. Fingers crossed it gets resolved soon!

  6. Also a government defense contractor. Trying SO HARD not to freak out, even though my company has pretty much said straight up that they are going to lay off more people (we already laid off about 200 last month).

    • Gretchensays:

We’re in this boat together, that’s for sure. The not knowing is by-far the worst part for me. I’m like, okay, I KNOW something is going to happen, just tell me WHAT and WHEN and to WHOM?!?!

      • Yes, exactly. Ugh, I could go on and on about this allllll day. I mean, it’s a small comfort knowing that it won’t be due to my performance but STILL. I *just* got back on my feet. OH GOD PLEASE DON’T LAY ME OFF.

(Also, hiiiiiiiiiiiii. I love Cassie too, we were friends back on LJ before she started BTHR and she is just the bestest ever.)

  7. Ellen Hsays:

You’re too adorable! Can I hire you for my wedding?
