Throwback Monday (Weigh-in)

Morning, everybody! I hope everyone had a great weekend! Mine consisted of helping (well, mostly watching) Steve move and watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II… again.

I’m dubbing this post as a throwback because you lucky ducks are looking at a classic Weigh-In Monday post. No frills, just some down & dirty weight-posting (every woman’s dream!) since it’s been a while between official weigh-ins (mostly out of shame, I’d say, haha.)

So without further adieu, here you go!

Starting Weight: 246 lbs
Last “Official” Weigh-in: 196.5 lbs
Unofficial Wednesday Weigh-in from last week: 192.5 lbs
This Week’s Weight: 191.2 lbs
This Week’s Loss: -5.3 lbs (HA!) or -1.3 lbs, depending on how you look at it.

Either way, I’LL TAKE IT! I know that I didn’t really gain 4.5 pounds solely from the Fourth of July weekend, but it was still pretty jarring to see that number pop up on the scale the morning after. (It’s like the dieter’s equivalent of the walk of shame, hahaha.) So hopefully now this means that the holiday weekend overindulging has been balanced out, and quite a bit of not-so-hot eating this past weekend (what else is new, eh?) I still actually managed to lose weight! Huzzah!

Thankfully this morning’s weigh-in, in conjunction with the magic that is Harry Potter and the most perfect movie conclusion ever, I think I’m officially out of my gloomy funk and back on track. Literally!

The 180s are so close I can almost taste them. This is my promise to you (or, you know, more appropriately, my promise to myself): I WILL be out of the 190s by this time next week. This is happening. Time to pull out all the stops!

Beach Countdown: 1 Week (Giveaway!)

Oh yes. Yes, my friends. In one tortuously long (but really, due to the holiday weekend it will actually be short) week, I will be lounging on the sunny sands of Ocean City. I can’t wait. I’ve been looking forward to a beach trip for what feels like FOREVER, and I’m hoping that my new found kinda-sorta bikini confidence won’t fail me now!

In an attempt to look more kick-ass and less lazy-assed, I’m switching into HIGH GEAR MODE for the next 7 days (barring a few celebratory and patriotic food indulgences this weekend. I mean, come on. It’s 4th of July weekend!) I know there isn’t really that much I can expect to have happen in a week (guess it kinda snuck up on me, eh?) but I’m going to do what I can. I’ve actually developed an ab workout plan (what?!) based on what I learned at the running clinic I attended at the Fitness & Health Bloggers Conference in Boulder last weekend – namely, that you should be able to do as many reps as your age in years. I did it last night. It hurt.

Attention must be paid:

23 bicycle crunches
23-second plank (or in my case, modified plank. Heh.)
23 lower leg lifts (aka death.)
23 oblique crunches (on both sides).

Lather, rinse, repeat.

I intend on doing this every day (as long as I, you know, uh, can.) and working in my other daily activity as follows:

Friday: Run for 20+ minutes after work
Saturday: Walking to/in/from Farmer’s Market with Jenn (hey, better than nothing, right?)
Sunday: Run for 25+ minutes with my sister (I should probably tell her we’re doing that, eh?)
Monday: Family walk with, um, my family. (I should probably tell them we’re doing that, huh?)
Tuesday: Run for 30+ minutes after work
Wednesday: Bob Harper’s Yoga for the Warrior DVD
Thursday: Strength/stretch/panic

And then Friday I head to the beeeeeeeeach!

UGH. I already regret having written up this plan. I think I’m going to need your help to come up with some serious motivation here. And to reward you guys for doing that, I have a sweet giveaway for you! Hooray!

I honestly really dig this scale. Obviously, you know that this is a weight loss blog. And in order to determine that I am actually, you know, losing weight (or to determine that I’m failing miserably, haha) I weigh myself every Monday. It’s nice that not only is this a really sharp-looking bathroom accessory (super thin!), but you can literally just step on it and it begins. No tapping on and waiting for the number to zero out like most scales I’m used to. It’s a small thing, but if you’re like me and you just want to get your weigh-in over and done with it does make a difference!

Oh hai there, Eagle!

Waaaaaaaaaah! I want to go back already! I can definitely see how you’d get addicted to the outdoors living out there. Even for me, as a self-proclaimed couch-potato and air conditioning-enthusiast, I just didn’t get enough of the mountains!

After the conference ended, Casey, Emily, Katie and I all headed to lunch at Zolo, a locally-sourced Mexican/Southwestern restaurant. It was delicious, and they were very accommodating to Casey & Katie’s dietary restrictions which I noticed a LOT of restaurants do in Boulder. It’s definitely the place to go if you have dietary sensitivities or food allergies!

After lunch my friend Matt (who moved to Colorado from DC a couple of years ago with his fiancee Jess) picked me up from the hotel and drove me up the side of a mountain so I could take in the sights. He felt bad that I had to miss out on hiking while I was there but I assured him that I would be back and we could climb the mountain the proper way next time. Prepare for photo overload:

It seems that Anne and I just can’t escape each other, because we also ran into each other AGAIN in the security line at the airport. Love it.

The last thing that Matt and I did before he generously drove me to the airport (curse you, Super Shuttle!) was to check out this little art fair that happened to be going on at the 29th Street Mall.

Holler! Thanks Boulder, for not only being an amazing place but also helping me lose half a pound! Except I’m pretty sure that the reason I “lost” that half-pound is because my dinner consisted of a mini-Larabar, an Attune probiotic chocolate bar, and a packet of airplane peanuts. Stupid 6:30 PM flight time.

Sidenote: I flew Southwest for the first time, and it was awesome! I kinda dug the whole pick-your-own-seat-thing. And for like, the second time ever I actually sat with really cool people and had real conversations on the plane. If you’re reading this, Hi Kate & Jon!

My final thoughts on the first-ever Fitness & Health Bloggers Conference are this: it was very informative, they selected very good speakers, and they couldn’t have picked a more perfect location to host it, but in comparison to Fitbloggin’ I felt it was less social and targeted to a bit of a different attendee audience. I was admittedly a little intimidated by all of the personal trainers and fitness and nutrition professional in attendance (as opposed to health/wellness bloggers with other full-time professions) and definitely felt self-conscious about my fitness level in comparison to the majority of the attendees. All in all though, it was obviously a great conference, and I learned a ton. Look forward to many more inspired posts to come!

Blogtasrophe! (Weigh-in)

AND WE’RE BACK!

In case you couldn’t hear my screams of anguish echoing over the blogosphere, something was very wrong with my blog today. I was unable to log-in to my blog client, couldn’t post all weekend, couldn’t post all day, it looked all nutty and plain-texty and well… to sum it up, my poor blog-baby was sick. And I was sad and angry and distraught, and it was all directed at the internet as a whole, hahaha. But! Thanks to my amazing brother/webmaster, it’s back and… better than ever? Well, that’s not true, because I’m still working through some issues. But hopefully it works for now.

So that at least explains why this post is coming so very, very late, and it’s coming with (hopeful) brevity because, you know, of that I promise that a real post with hilariousness and complete dog overload will be up bright & early tomorrow — in case you missed out on the tweets and Facebook photos showcasing the dogs’ pool adventures and my sister’s new puppy! Oh, and there may be pictures of me in a swimsuit too. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

So, without further adieu here is my weekend from Friday to Sunday, centered around a trip to Delaware to visit Steve for his birfday before coming back to celebrate my wonderful Papa, in pictures. Of food. Hehe.

So there you have it! Lots of delicious food (and this wasn’t all of it, but them’s the highlights fo’ sho’.) Steve and I went to this cute little place called Beseme in Lewes, DE to celebrate his birthday dinner.

It was really delicious, but the service was unfortunately super slow. Oh well, it is a beach town, I guess. Gotta go with the flow, haha. Then when I returned on Sunday, we celebrated Papa’s Day at a manly restaurant for my manly papa: Outback Steakhouse.

C’mon now, that’s pretty impressive considering all the previously listed decadent weekend food, no? So at least this thus far thoroughly emotionally-and-physically exhausting Monday has been made better by a very nice little bit of weight loss. It’s the small victories, y’know? Hopefully I’m just a hop, skip, and a week or two away from… holy crap. I don’t even think I can say it out loud. It’s just so crazy to think that I could ever actually hit… the 180s!

AHHH! That’s almost like, an acceptable weight! Hahaha. Don’t worry folks, we can celebrate tomorrow, when I announce the winner of my Popchips giveaway! So make sure you get your final entries in toniiiiight!

Reunion (Weigh-in)

In case you didn’t hear the news, I actually posted both days this past weekend! Be sure to catch up on my homemade sushi making skillz (them skillz be mad!)

As for the rest of the weekend, it was great (but felt short because it was so busy!) Aside from sushi-making when I was visiting my sister, we also managed to go for… a run!

Granted it was a short run, and perhaps for me it was more of a walk/run, but I did run and that’s what’s important. We even dragged the dogs along with us, and made ’em thoroughly pooped. A tired pup is a happy pup!

And then we headed back to the FC to spend some time with our relatives, as this week there’s a mini Powell-family reunion going on this week! Two of my uncles & aunts, and two of my cousins are in town to see the sights and be patriotic in Our Nation’s Capital and whatnot, hahaha.

So to kick things off, we had all intended on going to the Peking Gourmet Inn for dinner, where they serve the best Peking duck everrrr. Only, we didn’t take into account the ridiculous, death-thunderstorms that riddled the area, which evidently knocked out power all over town (luckily our power only flickered a bit.) But it was wiped out at the restaurant! So that ended up being a no-go, and I was sad.

But then I was happy, as a contingency plan was quickly formed and we went to Sweet Rice for Thai instead.

So all’s well that ends well, but I do still wish I could have gotten some peking duck in mah bellah. Ah well, another time. Tonight the fam’s grilling out, so that should be really fun! Grilling always feels like summer (you know, because the 80% humidity doesn’t feel enough like summer… hahaha.)

Okay, last thing before I let you leave… it’s (finally) weigh-in time! The last time I weighed in was Memorial Day, and I was riding high off of that successful 2 lb loss. Then I made the executive decision to take a week off to try to normalize after my weekend of gluttony in NYC. So, here’s hoping that things did indeed normalize, and I won’t be too disappointed…!

Well, okay, I’m not really crying. But is ain’t fabulous news, let’s be honest. I guess this sufficiently answers the question “did I gain weight in NYC?“. huh? Especially since I was really quite good this past week. I am SUPER glad I didn’t weigh-in last Monday now! Hahahaha.

But! I persevere. I got some REAL exercise in over the weekend, and I plan on continuing that as well as being extra good with my eats (as is always the goal.) Hopefully by this time next week, I’ll be a loser again! 😉

What is your opinion on lowering my caloric intake for a little while? Do you think it would impact my metabolism in a positive way if I restricted myself to a 1,200 or 1,300 calorie/day diet instead of 1,500 – 1,600 like I currently aim for?

I don’t want to risk slowing my metabolism down in a bad way, but I don’t feel that my current caloric deficit is proving to be enough to keep losing weight… but then again I know that I need to be exercising harder and obviously that would impact things as well. Just curious about your thoughts!
