Weigh-in Wednesday: 2013 Kickoff

I weighed in this morning, and have some pleasantly exciting news!

So, granted, it’s been a while since my last official blog weigh-in. Like… it was before Thanksgiving. Oops. Truth be told, I don’t have much of an excuse as to why that is, except for me just really not wanting to. But! I’ve been keeping vague track of my weight throughout the holidays just to make sure I haven’t been going too overboard, and was very pleased to see that I was doing a pretty damn good job of maintaining, without really even trying!

But it’s January 2nd, 2013, which means Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year’s have come and they have gone. So, now that the holiday season is officially over (CRY!) I figured I owed you all a real, true, legitimate weigh-in post. Y’know, for posterity and all that. Heeeere we go!

Starting Weight: 246 lbs
Last Weigh-in: 197.1 lbs
This Weigh-in: 198.1 lbs
Difference: +1.0 lb

BOOM! I made it through almost three months of mashed potatoes, cookies, and champagne, only to come through on the other side with one measly little pound gained. Which, c’mon, unless you’re a crazy person (well, okay, I often am, but let’s ignore that for now) barely even counts as a gain. I gain and lose two or three pounds within in the course of the same day all the time. So I am absolutely counting this as maintenance, which is a decided VICTORY for me over the holidays (especially since last holiday season, I gained over 10 pounds back — whoooooops!).

That said, with the new year does come a renewed and reinvigorated interest in my final weight loss. I really do want to finally (yeah, yeah, I know, that word is so loaded now) get rid of the last linger 15 or so pounds I’ve been carrying around. I really do think I looked fit, healthy, and happy when I got to 186 back in 2011, so I’d really like to see how I feel once I’m in the low 180s. It’s not the 165 that I (arbitrarily) chose at the beginning of this journey, but it really is so close I can almost taste it. So, full speed ahead, eh?

Have you braved the scale yet in this brand new year? Good or bad news? Has it left you motivated or depressed?

  1. Haven’t braved the scale yet and it’s been a full month since i’ve done any sort of exercise but I’m ready! Already got a 5k lined up in a month and have a plan of action! Let’s do the damn thing!

  2. I have almost two weeks until my next weigh in and I’m not exactly looking forward to it, but at the same time–it should be motivating.

This is going to be a CHEESY reply but I wanted to tell you that you inspired me to start taking my weight loss seriously again. Rejoined WW and am working out at least 4 days a week. Am focusing on more the 2lb weight loss per week etc. You weighed more than I did starting out but I would love to be back to where you are now….and 180 is a pipe dream for me and it sounds weird to say I am happiest in the 190’s but I am! I LOVE it that you are about the same build as I am to because so many weight loss stories are about girls who aren’t truly big. I know it is a state of mind for so many and everyone has body insecurities blah blah but really for those of us that are largish those people sound ridiculous. Like if your chubbs time is a size 10 you are just goofy and need to love yourself more. Just saying I will love the weigh ins and will cheer you on.
I also bought your book on my Nook because I love me some YA and Running off the Reeses recommended you so WINNING!

  4. Laura Janesays:

I have not braved the scale yet, buuuuut I am on Monday along with three of my friends for weekly weigh-ins! I’ve got 15 pounds to lose myself! You can do it! 🙂

  5. KatieGsays:

6lb gain over the holidays, boooo. Oh well, I stayed under 195 which was my main fear. Looking forward to following your weightloss journey with my own this year Gretchen, mainly coz we have similar stats so I’m all like “whoop whoop tall girls!” haha

  6. My weigh in wasn’t great, but it didn’t leave me depressed because I know that I’m back on track today. My goal for this year is to see a 1 as the first number on the scale 🙂

  7. Good job! I did and it was as expected, but I’ve got a renewed energy and I’m going to see that too high number go down this year.

  8. Oh yes, I went back to WW yesterday and got on the scale. Other than at the doctor’s office last month during which I kept my eyes closed, I had not been on a scale since my last WW meeting in April. It was time. It wasn’t pretty, my weight is at it’s highest ever, but hey – that’s why I was there. Time to get to work. Congrats on only a 1 lb. gain during the holidays. Honestly that’s maintaining. You rocked it.

  9. That’s great! Most of my co-workers commented on how many pounds they gained over the holidays. I didn’t gain/lose but definitely feel a lot softer and jiggly. My goal is to continue to lose weight but more so, gain muscle!

  10. I’ve braved the scale and lost 2.2lbs the last week of December, but I’m also still newer in my weight loss journey. I’m hoping to carry my motivation and momentum into the new year!

  11. Congrats on the maintenance!!! I bounced around last year a lot and am starting this year about 15lbs over my goal. It won’t be easy but in the end it will be totally worth it!!

  12. That’s definitely an achievement you should be proud of. It’s very difficult to maintain your weight during the feasting period of the holidays. Obviously you’re really getting in tune with your eating habits.
    Great job!!
